Talking Mineral Brake fluid reservoir

Hi,
I have an '88 3.6lt XJ40. The brake oil level warning light on the VDU is coming on all the time now. I have checked both oil reservoirs. The master cyfluid linder fluid is ok. I checked the mineral reservoir and topped the oil up. I noticed that the sight glass did not change from red to green. The low brake fluid warning light still comes on. I can only presume that the oil level float???? is stuck or faulty.
Are these containers able to be opened and serviced.
Thanks for your assistance.

I'm no great help, but I thought that the sight glass referred to the suspension aspect. (I could be totally out to lunch).

One of the things that I have noticed 91 onwards is that when the Accumulator Sphere goes bad the Red warning light will light up with pretty much every press of the pedal.

Even if you have new pads, and enough fluid to sell back to Penrite.

Hopefully someone will chime in.

Default Mineral Brake fluid reservoir

Hi,

Noticed you haven't had any responses yet. I have an '89 XJ40 and it used to have the SLS (self leveling shocks) and the secondary brake system. I got rid of them both due to the continuous problems that come with the mineral oil system.

If you still have the stock SLS system you may want to examine the shocks and see if you have a leak in one of them. Another issue is with the brake system. Pull the floor mats back on the drivers side and see if you have any leakage from the booster. It will be apparent. One Saturday I ran an errand and looked down at my brand new Nike's and the right was covered with green mineral oil.

As far as the canister indicator goes, mine did the same thing for a few years, just had to get in the habit on monitoring it with some frequency. There is a low pressure warning switch that interfaces with the SLS accumulator/valve block below the mineral oil canister. You may want to check it out.

Let us know some more detail so we can help out identifying the problem. Hopefully someone who has acutally repaired the system will respond.
