Default Mystery switch

I recently acquired a 1992 Vanden Plas. There is a switch in the back of the center console glove box that does not appear in the manual or any of the equipment brochures (like the one for the security system) that came with the car. Does anyone know what it controls?

Hi 92Jag,

Are you saying you do have the security system switch, and the mystery switch is a second switch under the center console arm rest? The only thing I can think of would be a switch for an aftermarket device such as a radar detector. Can you post a photo of the switch?

Cheers,

Don

I think it might unlock the trunk?

Welcome to the forum 92Jag,

If it's not a secondary/aftermarket security system then perhaps an ignition isolation switch fitted by a PO to make it harder for anyone to steal the vehicle?

On my 92 Sov, the trunk release is in the jockey box, but the 94 xj6 has it and the alarm system switch at the rear of the center console under the armrest. It would be awfully nice if Jaguar had used label paint that actually Stayed on the switches wouldn't it? Good luck.

Thanks to everyone who had suggestions on this. It proved to be the valet switch on the security system. The security system supplemental pamphlet said there was a valet switch and the Jaguar dealer would tell me where it was, so I probably should have figured that out. The lady who sold it to me said the remote was the only way to operate the security system, so that kind of threw me off the trail of security system switches. I probably never would have figured it out without your help, unless I turned it on when the alarm was armed which then sets the alarm off.

Thanks again I really appreciate the help.

I had a 1992 that had the VALET switch installed on the underside on the steering column cowl. Putting the switch in one position has the annoying effect of having the security sounder activated every time you open the door or operate the ignition key.

Putting the switch in the other just kept it QUIET!!!!!!!!!!!
