Default Need a gearbox

Hi, I have a 1987 2.9 XJ40 on auto, I need a new transmission as the forward clutch pack has failed! Does anyone know of one available to South Australia or where I can get parts?
Grateful for any help!
Cheers
Mark.

I cant say I am transmission expert, but I have rebuilt a few in the past and mostly they have been 3 and 4 spds. While they look daunting, these older guys are just big and heavy and if you can get the out an apart they are fairly straightforward.

Granted if mine goes I would look around for one as an exchange but if I had the time I would pull it apart and take a look...I mean its already broken right?

Default Scarce

Yes I had thought of that but I don't have the time and wouldn't know where I could source the parts at a reasonable price! This model is not that common in the 2.9 version! :-(

Hey thanks for that peter, I may be interested in that. Is it the correct gearbox for my model and engine size? Could you send me the gearbox code so I can check?
I can arrange collection from you, if you wouldn't mind sending me your area code and the weight of the unit so I could get prices, that would be great.
If it's all good, do you have a paypal account I could transfer the money directly into?
Cheers
Mark.

Imagine what it was like owning one of these cars when there was no forum? Not fun.

Hello Mark,
It is a 4HP-22.
To the best of my knowledge it will fit all 2.9, 3.2, 3.6 & 4 litre motors xj40 , it is a 4 speed auto and weighs about 50 kgs.
I can mount it on a small pallet.
I do have a paypall account
Pick up from 4218 Shailer Park Brisbane or I can drop off at freight yard
Having trouble posting the picture not sure how to attach it
regards.................... Peter
