Valve block / Anti-lock issue
XJ40Valve block / Anti-lock issue

19hHi all,
I’ve just purchased myself a 1990 Daimler XJ40 4.0 and it has some issues. This is my first time owning a classic Jag/Daimler so it is all new to me.
The first issue I noticed was the valve block was unplugged electrically, I plugged it back in and the unit immediately started to pump like a ticking clock, it did not sound right at all so I disconnected it again, there must be a reason the previous owner unplugged it. There was also some pipes in the vicinity that looked like they should of been connected to said unit but were not.
I think this unit controls the ABS and ride height? I also have a anti-lock light on my dashboard, could this be why? if it has been purposefully disconnected how has it been passing a MOT with the ABS warning light on the dashboard?
So I guess, what is wrong with it to make it pulsate? and how can I clear the anti-lock light off my dashboard?
Another light on my dashboard is the bulb out light, all my lights work, so how can this be removed also?
The car also has a lightning bolt amber light too, the VCM says FUSE 1. I’ve checked every fuse in the A pillars and centre console for continuity and all checked out. Puzzling.
Thanks,
Craig
Do a thorough walk around for lights. There are marker lights in the side/ ends of the bumpers that go unnoticed (just had one this week). Check all flashers with hazards on. As for valve block, do you mean the ABS unit? This has all the brake lines plumbed through it but the black reservoir bulb usually goes bad so that the abs system thinks theres a problem.

This thing.
UPDATE.
Took the Daimler for an MOT this morning and it obviously failed. but it gave me a list of jobs that need doing.
One thing I spoke about to the MOT tester was the ABS, it failed as it is illuminated on the dash. But he recalled from years ago about a thing called blink test which I thought was interesting. Did a bit of digging and found how to do it, jumping the connection block in the boot by the ABS ECU unit. And to my amazement, it worked.
It threw up the code 21, 32, 61.
After further digging I think the code numbers mean as follows;
21 - Main valve (Don't know what this is referring to)
32 - Sensor right front (Self explanatory)
61 - Short circuit leakage current from battery to warning switch path. (Not sure where to start with this one - It does explain why I had to charge the battery this morning before setting off!)
Any advice on how to tackle these faults would be great.
It also failed on the offside repeater being incorrect colour (White instead of orange) no bulbs out etc despite the dash saying so.
The picture I posted earlier must be the ride self levelling device, it must be disconnected as the MOT guy said the rear has standard coils etc so must of been converted?
Thanks,
Craig
