No start after long storage - bad gas?
My 1991 X6 has been on blocks for several years due to a blown head gasket. I replaced the head gasket and now it won't start. Brand new battery, turns over, fuel pump comes on but wont fire. At first I realized I stupidly forgot to attach the high tension wire to the distributor but now everything checks out. Compression is good. The tank is full but the gas is years old. Can the gas go bad? I will try to see if it will fire with ether. If so I probably need to drain the gas tank. Any other ideas?

Hello outsidenote,
I looked for your introduction, but didn't find one. I realize you want to get your Cat up and running as quickly as possible but you need to write one.

Sure, gas can go bad after sitting for long periods without some kind of stabilizer in it -- it can also plug up carburetor orifices just by sitting in the float bowl.
Looking forward to reading your intro.

Hi o,
Have you figured out whether it's a fuel or fire problem?
You may want to read Rex's thread,

for quite a few ideas to follow.
If you please, keep us informed of your progress.
