Just purchased a Beautiful xj6 1991 with 57k. One of the small problems is noisy lifter! Was told that they arehydraulic and cannot be adjusted. Then told mechanic after he recommended an oil aditive that I had synthetic oil - he said that was not good and may well be reason. Told me to go to normal oil 20-50 and add the pint of the additive.
Opinions on that?

ALSO how is door seal installed? Glued ? or . I need to R/R mine, already have new sills on the way.
Thank you

If you fully use sytn oil you would not need any oil additive . I have been using Castrol Edge 10W60 due to my Jag Specialist's highly recommendation .Otherwise I would go for 20W50 as well

The lifters are not hydraulic. They are solid lifters and can be adjusted with shims. It's a real pain in the ***. The door seal is not glued in but you will learn a few new curse words on the install.

When you have the new seal, look at the section, and you will see it is moulded so as to fit into a channel. It is getting it into this channel that puts the anguish into being a DIT Jag owner. Factory fitters have access to special trimming tools to do these jobs.

And more.......

Noisy lifter could be a valve sticking, so tread carefully. How long since car last ran with the previous owner ? Suggest you at least check all the clearances by taking cam cover off and using feeler gauges.

Car was being driven regularly by last owner. Has 57K miles on it.
Does have synthetic oil.

Ordered cam cover gasket because I was going to "adjust" lifters bUT now I know I cannot! Was quoted $ 1,100.00 by Jag dealer to do job? Fair price?

TY
