Default powered seat operation

Hi, you power seat users. Now that jaguar seats are being fitted into other models says alot about thier feel / quality, can some one tell me how they operate?. For instance can they be operated without being occupied, or the door being opened. Sounds rather like a bout of yoga. Any comments are welcome, well almost( Not those about my sanity)Many thanks.
In addition were the seats fitted with any type of air bag/ side protection.

On every Jaguar I've owned with power adjustable seats from 1972 XJ6 Series 1 through to current 2005 XK8, the power seat buttons work without the seat being occupied and with the door open or closed.

Side air bags came in around 2001. Seats fitted with these can be identified by a tag stitched into the piping:

This is the passenger seat on my XK8. Note the black AIRBAG tag.

Later models with occupancy sensing will trigger dashboard warning lights if the seat is occupied but the occupant doesn't have their seat belt fastened.

On my 1992 XJ6 Sovereign (non-memory power seats), with the ignition switch on, I can operate the seats whether occupied or not, and with the door open or not. With the ignition switch off, I can only operate them with a door open.

Thanks Nick , this is really useful, trying to make sense of a wiring diagram, but without some knowledge of the interaction between door/seat sensors and relays some what of a puzzle.
