Re- keying Tibbe door lock
My 94 xj6's passenger door lock cylinder does not work with any key that I have, although any of the 3 keys that I have will unlock the driver door (go figure AND WTF?). I believe this to be a complication of the rebuilt title condition of which it is afflicted. I have now amassed enough spare parts (and a bit of time) to try to make adjustments. I have disassembled a door cylinder from my 1996 doors, and the ignition cylinder also from the same 96 year car. I believe that I have enough of the correct discs to assemble a correctly keyed lock cylinder. I am wondering if anyone else has tried this and what my chances of success might be. I have the TSB that Motorcarman kindly uploaded, and following that I think I can feel my way through.
If this scheme fails, I have keys and all lock cylinders off of the 94 parts car that I stripped earlier this year and could possibly swap them all. I dont really want to delve that deeply into things right now though.... ..... ... although.......(brain gears grinding)......
Thoughts? potshots?

I do have an actual question here for those who have done this and may remember- When loading the cylinder, should there be a washer first before the first disc or not? The pics in the TSB dont show one, but that may be assuming that I didnt remove it in the first place. Thanks all!
I posted this on the interweb several decades ago.
I got the paper TSB when I worked at the dealer and converted it to a JPEG and then to a Word Document and finally to a .pdf back in the 1990s.
That is the reason it is a large file.
You are welcome.

I did the lock cylinder on my passenger side when I repaired the handle ...8 years ago though ....I should really do it again as I got turned around somehow and instead of 12345 I did 54321 so the lock can be locked (as Bob says, any Tibbe key will lock ANY Tibbe lock) but only the right code will unlock that same lock.
The job is on the list somewhere.

Well. Heres the next exciting installment to the never ending saga of "what the hell is he doing NOW?". I spent way too much time trying to re-key my passenger door. Close to 4 hours. I am truly not sure what the problem was, but I could not get to where it seemed work even though I had Bobs TSB printed out and laying in front of me (thanks anyway). I know, that doesn't make me look very bright. Oh well, it just wasnt meant to be. I had an alternate plan anyway, which is why I wasnt too worried about failing. Plan B consisted of "simply" swapping of all lock cylinders from my parts car over to this one. I have keys for those locks and they all work well, so why not. I had that project done in under 3 hours.
As far as the "all 3 keys work that other lock" condition in the driver door, make it 4. The key for my 04 worked it too. But as soon as I took that cylinder out I could see why. It was missing half of its discs inside. Now I wonder why it worked at all. I guess wonders never cease. SO all in all, Ill put this little project in the success column. As an extra little bonus, I had refoamed the speakers from the parts car with the intent if putting them in this car at some point and swapped those out too while I was in both the front doors. Doing the rear door speakers took under an hour so that was a no brainer.
