about to replace rear rear end on 94 xj6. can someone tell me the pros and cons of replacing the old rear end with a 4:11 ratio. I think the 4:11 will give me lower end performance but not sure of the cons. please help.

 

What gear ratio do you have now? If it the 3:54 the 4:11 will offer a noticeable difference. The cons are few. The engine will turn a few hundred RPM higher on the highway and you will likely see a slight decrease in fuel mileage. If you do mostly highway cruising it's not a great idea. If you do mostly lower speed city and boulevard driving it may offer a snappier driving experience.

 

I have no idea where you would get a 4.11 diff. I remember that 3.77 was available as well as the normal 3.58.

I think a 4.09 was offered for the 2.9 liter sedan but not sold in the US.

Motorcarman didn't know where to find a 4:11 rear end for a 94 xj6. Coventry West located in Ga. has them in stock. still not sure if I will change from stock rear end to 4:11. I want the bottom end but afraid of possible problems. Thanks for all the advise from everyone. Will keep you posted.
