Rear Wheel Play

Hi........my first post
I have a 93 xj40, I just jacked it up to check the wheels.
The rear wheels I noticed there is play of about an eight of an inch horozontaly, floor to the top of the wheel.
This is with it jacked up........is this normal?
I'm guessing it is why the fulcrum bearings are there ?
There is no play vertically.......what are the symptoms of worn fulcrum bearings?
thanks Bruce

If you're saying that you can move the wheel as if you were "steering" it, you have bad fulcrum bearings. When there is enough play, the change in rear toe will cause instability that you can feel when you get on and off the throttle.
