Default Replacing Headlight Assembly in 1990 Van Den Plas

Hi all,

I had a hard time getting back into the forum and really appreciate all of your help with my last issue!

My current issue is this: Someone smashed into my driver's side headlight and broke it -- GLASS all over the street! I got a replacement headlight assembly on Ebay.

My husband said he would install it but then got freaked out by the fact that my manual only shows the round headlights, not the square ones that my car has. Also, it's wintertime, and we don't have a garage to work on it in, and he read somewhere that the plastic will crack in the cold, and you have to take off the bumper to replace the headlight?!? My manual says to remove the grille, but again, it's for the round headlights.

My Haynes manual for my year shows pictures only for the round headlights, not the square ones. Is there anywhere I can see pictures/videos of the square headlights being replaced? I'm afraid I'll have to wait until springtime to get this replaced if it really needs a warm environment to change it as well!

Any suggestions, pictures, or videos would be much appreciated.

Thank you!

Amanda

It may be Easier to remove the grille, but it is not necessary. The mount points are the same and it's 4 13mm nuts each side, so you can use the "round headlight" instructions as a guide. The problem I have encountered is the bolts in the fiberglass back plate will come loose in their holes. It's not a critical problem, but it needs dealt with. Honestly, looking under my hood I'm not sure why you would remove the grille. I have never dealt with the 4 light system, but I have changed the Fishtanks several times. It's not a huge deal, especially as Jaguar thinking goes. Just take a breath and remember it's only a car.

Drive to your local mall with underground parking and replace the headlight there, out of the weather.

Thank you both! I suppose I should just try it myself rather than trying to enlist my reluctant husband into doing it, but he's got all of the tools. I will give it a shot and will go to a garage to install it.
