I've been attempting to search the forum for info on how to test the CPS but when I enter CPS or CPS OHM as search terms my search comes back empty. What am I doing wrong?

The search terms are too short.
Try reading this https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/j...le-site-60209/

The forum search software ignores three character search terms. It is also not capable of word stemming.

Using the site clause at either bing or google will yield much better results.

Try the following in the search box at google:

site:jaguarforums.com cps ohm xj40

should yield 60 results for you to look at.

bing is less spammy, but in this case yielded no results.

There are 2 units called CPS.

CMPS is the Camshaft Position Sensor.
CKPS is the Crankshaft Position Sensor.

There is a difference.

to test the cps, replace it. they're cheap and a spare couldn't hurt on these cars

Thanks guys.

The cheapest crank sensor could find was about $70 at Rock Auto which isn't super expensive but if there's an easy way to test those units I'd rather do that than spend $70 and find out there was no problem with the old one.
