Service/Repair info for XJ40s
Hi all,
I'm an info junkie. When I purchased my '88, the PO included two manuals. I'm always looking for more, and Google has been a good friend of mine.
The following three writings are up on the sticky, XJ40 FAQ quick links .
1. Richard Hyde assembled many postings of questions and answers from the Internet and wrote,
The Jaguar XJ40 - Tips and Tricks from the Internet
2. This one may be read on the Jag-lovers website. I think you will have to join (free) in order to read it. It is very good.
- Jag-Lovers' xj40 Ebook: Index Page -
3. I knew about the first two prior to my arrival here, but also in the above sticky, I found the following beauty,
AJ6 4.0L Engine Management Systems Diagnostics Guide (many thanks Motorcarman from me, too).
The 3.6L and the 4.0L have different engine management systems: they have different ECUs and the error codes are differing. However, I'm finding it interesting to read and some of it is common to both systems.
4. So, I went out looking for the AJ6 3.6L version of the above. I didn't find one, but I did circle back to this site because of a post entitled Christo's JTIS Download Site
JTIS stands for (I believe) Jaguar Technicians Information System. If you read through the 17+ pages of thread, you will find many people got this "up and running" on a Win XP machine, but few got it to work on Win 7 unless they bought the Pro version. It provides info for many Jaguar models and CD 2 has stuff for us!
Now, I run a version of Linux and found that the XJ40 info is nothing more than 14 pdfs. I also found if you open up one, the others can be accessed by clicking on a bookmark. If you make an index and save it to a text file, well, its like reading a book - you can easily figure out where to go.
So, if you want to get these, and read them on any PC or MAC, here is all you have to do.
a. SuperSport has posted the files here, My Jaguar Files Collection
b. Clicking on the above link sends you to MediaFire. Left mouse click on the word, JTIS, and then on the words, Self Extracting ZIPPED Version. Do NOT click on the down arrow situated at the left of the words.
c. The files you want to download are entitled, "JTIS Self Extracting Files Disc 2.part 1 of 2.exe" and "JTIS Self Extracting Files Disc 2.part 2 of 2.rar". Download them and remember where you put them on your hard drive. For instance, create a file folder named "JTIS" on your desktop and download them there.
d. Using Win Explorer, navigate to that folder and left mouse click on the file "JTIS Self Extracting Files Disc 2.part 1 of 2.exe". It should self extract all the files into a folder either of its choosing or of your choice. I had to use a program called "file roller" on my *NIX machine.
e. Look for a folder named "Content" and open it up. You should find 26 items in it. They are:

Erroneous fuel system failure symbol displayed
I found the article (Jaguar recommending disabling the "Fueling Failure" fascia error code capability).
It seems to be a factory TSB and I have posted it on another thread, Erroneous Fuel System Failure Symbol Displayed - temporary fix
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Steve,
I thought I saw that article before somewhere.
I posted a link to it on another thread, 88 Vanden Plas still won't start
