Default Speedo transducer problem

My speedo transducer was damaged when replacing the diff output bearings. Diff is now lovely and quiet, but now have no speedo.
I sourced a replacement off ebay and installed it along with the plastic shims/spacers. Drove my car and still no speedo. Removed the transducer and found that the sensor had snapped inside the diff where it enters the ring gear.
Is there something I am missing or have over looked. I am back looking for another replacement but would appreciate any info on fitting this sensor. A new replacement Jaguar part is £118....thanks guys for any info. Dave.
