Well, seems like the XJ40 is the gift that keeps on giving.

I decided to go on a brisk 14 mile drive and 10 miles into it the car started making a sputtering sound in the front wheel-well area. I’m pretty sure a sputter is the accurate word for the sound I’m trying to describe. Similar to the sound of going over a bunch of tiny speed bumps only the road was smooth.

what should I look for? All the connections to the wheel and suspensions look intact and not loose. Brake issue? Bearing issue?

 

Take the offending wheel off and see if theres anything flapping under there. Anything stuck inside the wheel or underneath- a twig or some such? Calper tight, check bearings....
