Default Starter removal

Ok I am sure there is a thread here somewhere on this because there is no way there can't be. I have a 1990 Jaguar Vanden Plas Majestic and I need to change the starter. I got up under the car and saw easy access to the bottom bolt and was searching for the top, which I found, and as I'm sure you all know it faces the other @#$%& way and is near impossible to get to. How in the world do I get to this bolt without having to basically lower the transmission????????????????????

I used a long 13MM double box flex head and that did the job. But now I have a new issues. I carefully hooked up the two wires with the adapter to the new capacitor, hooked up the ground, and connected the adapter piece back to the other power side. Not long after I heard a pop. I disconnected battery and check all my connections. The ground looked very close to the power wire so i moved it away and made sure nothing was touching. Now I go and try to start the car finally and I just get one click, thats it. Is the capacitor cooked???? Or is there something else I am over looking???
