Default Tracking a hiss

Not that I'm going to go nuts if I don't find it or not. Maybe someone else has had this issue and it was an easy find/fix.

Turning the climate control on there is a very slight hiss, on when the control is on. Is doesn't get louder if I increase the climate speed. Here is the kicker.
When braking into a corner (turning right) it goes away, then while applying gas to get back up to speed it starts again at that same constant slight hiss.
It sounds like its coming from under the dash passenger side. Almost like a vacuum issue. Just curious. I can live with it, but would rather not. Perry Mason?

Just for kicks, unplug your air conditioning compressor [but leave the climate control on] and see if the noise goes away. I'm thinking you may be hearing the refrigerant flowing through the expansion valve. If so, your refrigerant level may be down.

Cheers,

It could be water in one of the blower housings from a clogged drain tube in the fresh air cowl area or climate control housing. I have seen broken 'squirrel cage' blowers from high water levels in the housing and the fan trying to turn in the water. If there is just enough water to touch the fan, then the noise will change with the water sloshing back and forth. The fan will rust and become inop after a while.

Just a thouhgt

Try this too. With the hiss going step on the brake and see if it goes away. If it does then your power brake booster has a leaking seal.

The low refrigerant charge is good to look at too.

Sorry, his brake are hydraulically assisted, he doesn't have a vacuum booster.

mrtalk, I reread your first post, I'm certain you are hearing the refrigerant. I don't know why, but the attitude of the car, turning, stopping etc., sure has an effect on the freon flow. I noticed it some in my '89 VDP, and even more in my '93 XJ6. An evacuate and proper recharge always reduced or eliminated noticing it.

Cheers,

Thanks for the insight fellas. I'll get at that refrigerant soon enough.
