Default What is the Brown Connector?

What is the purpose of the brown electrical connector in the attached picture. Its on my 1991 XJ6 on the right side of the engine just ahead of the battery. As you can see the one is not attached to anything - is it suppose to be that way or did someone cut it off?

Thanks, Mac

That appears to be LI-57, a brown PM4 6-way socket. It's a diagnostic connector. I'll have to check my '92 and see what's plugged into it, but your car appears to be correct.
