Default Xj 40 fuel pump relay

Hi
I currently have no fuel to my rail on my xj. I have browsed previous threads and looked in the usual locations ( have a manual coming in post) in boot right rear above lamp module there is a relay there the old metal type and I shorted it but it controls the break light in rear window, have checked under glove box there are 2 there one on a red base and one on a yellow I'm not sure if these are the right ones but swapped them both out with the horn relay that I know works but still nothing ( unless one of those is the relay and the pump or connections are buggered) I checked in and around the firewall but can't seem to find anything there. Is there so where else to check? Just want to be damn sure it's not the pump before I tackle it. I had just replaced the battery which made me think the relay. The year is a 93 and it's a daimler. Any help would be great

Hi Troy,
The fuel pump relay for your car is in the rear quarter on the right hand side somewhere in front of the tail lights and coloured light blue.

The fuel pump relay takes its supply from the closing of the oxygen sensor heater relay which is also light blue. It is located in the engine bay, right hand side just in front of the windscreen.

Also check fuse C6 25A in the right fuse panel.

If you have a inertia switch, check that it has not tripped. Usually located either somewhere around the brake pedal or behind the heel boards in the front.

Hope this helps,

Hi jimbov
Thanks for the reply. I have checked all around that location over and over with no luck there is a black relay there but it's for the rear window b light, no relays in engine bay apart from the ones up by the radiator (unless under something) I also checked the fuse location u suggested but it was for the aerial? Pulled and checked all fuses left and right footwell clusters.I am beginning to wonder if the year of manufacture on the papers belonging to this jag are accurate. The stamp on bottom right of the windscreen reads SAJDKALD3AJ679435 if anyone out there can decipher it?
Hmmmmmm

Hi Troy,
I am assuming that you checked behind the trim panel in boot.
The relays in the engine bay will be covered and in 2 groups of 3.

As for the VIN, my decoder shows a 2.5L engine and 2010. I don't put much faith in that though.

Try this for any free electrical diagrams you may need.
Jaguar electrical reference

Sorry I can't be of more help at this point,

Yep pulled the trim. There are two covered groups of three all labelled as well up the front of engine bay 1of them is light blue labelled breather heater but this has always been vacant. Thanks for your help I will read through the reference provided.

Cheers

Found relay under glove compartment underneath a black plastic cover.the year of manufacture was way off on the papers as this xj has the external pump thank god for that!

The pump is buggered I jacked it with 12 volts and it just makes a crunching sound. Undid the fuel line there was minimal flow turned ignition to on and felt the pump try to power up but no change is fuel pressure comming out the undone out feed line line.

Time for a new pump. Thanks for the replies jim

Hi Troy,
No probs, only glad you found the problem and can now get it sorted and get back to enjoying the car.

Also, thanks for the update.
