Default XJ40 drivers door

Hello Forum. I have a 1988/89 Jaguar sedan. The outer door handle broke several years ago and was replaced with a remanufactured one as the lever had broken. The car door was shut recently and now it can'r be opened from inside or outside. It seems that the auto lock function has deployed. There are 2 places where the wires all join, but I don't have any circuit diagram to help me discover which wires I might be able to connect to either lock or unlock the latch. The door is now shut and cannot be opened. I have removed the inner door trim and have access to the wires, but a wary of trying to activate the actuator to release the lock function. I have tried to power the actuator but, without any clear steps outlined am worried about doing damage by powering the wrong circuit. Does anyone have clear steps I can safely take to manually switch the actuator polarity so I can open the door? When I try to do it from inside the car, I have to get into the car via the passenger door and access the door latch using a screwdriver to move the levers on the latch, but cannot release it.

I believe the actual actuator has two wires only. If you unplug the pigtail, you should be able to isolate and power the switch directly. I'm not sure but I think you'd be ok even if you reversed the contacts momentarily.

Gus has ALL the earlier Jaguar Electrical Guides on his site.

S65_89.pdf is the guide you want

About a 6.6mb download.

The auto lock is different from "opening the door." is the door stuck in locked position, or are both handles inop?
