XJ40 on Jackstands?

My stepfather's '91 Sovereign has two very flat front tires and has been sitting in his garage for quite some time.

I'm wondering if anyone can tell me if it is acceptable to put the front on jackstands until such a time that he can get the front tires replaced? This could literally take anywhere for 2-6 months...

Someone told me that hanging the suspension on these cars is very damaging to them, is there any creedance in this? I wouldn't hesistate to put any other car I've ever worked on on jacks for such a long time, but I don't want to screw up his Jag!

What could it possibly damage. Are we to think that putting it up for a short time ie. to change a flat is okay, but longer is not!!!??

I just had my 1990 on stands for the past month, and the suspension's (still) working fine now.

I would suggest to just get the tires fixed....

If you put the car on jackstands for an extended period of time there is always the possibility (but minimal chance) that the frame could bend. The suspension shouldn't get 'damaged' when it's in the air, but if you're really worried you could load the suspension for the time that it sits.
