XJ6 4.0 93 no CD Player
Hi everbody!
I own an XJ6 4.0 93. Not sure if that is considered a classic yet. The car is in Portugal, but itīs the U.S. version. Bought it from the American Embassy. With 76.000 miles on it, it's almost impeccable.
I have been going crazy looking for the correct multi CD player, here in Europe. Went directly to Jaguar, they wanted to charge me a fortune! And strange enough, they provided no clues....
My radio is the DBC6436 model. From HOURS of studying, it LOOKS like the correct multi CD player to be used would be the Alpine ref. LXF4160BA....BUT I AM NOT 100% SURE of this...If I buy via net, I can still spend a "few hundred" and not get the right one.
Can anybody help me to solve this?

That is very low mileage for an XJ40! Our '93 has done 196K, so yours is not even broken in.

Also, the OE Jaguar units show up on eBay fairly often, sometimes at bargain prices, although sometimes requiring some degree of repair.
Cheers,

All the Jaguar CD changers up to 1997 should plug in and play with the Jaguar radio head unit. The cable/harness in the boot will plug in and operate the CD changer.
There are several mount brackets for the different model Jaguars but the units are all compatible.
There are ALPINE units that will work fine. There are some X300 radio head units that had 'updated' software that rendered the Alpine CD changers incompatible so ONLY Jaguar units would work.
The XJ40 radios were never issued with the software so even the Alpine 'aftermarket' units still worked.
Here is some info for you.

Hi Don:
Thanks for the info! Still trying to get use to the Form format. I can see you have a nice colection....Congratulations.
I myself am starting a collection. Latest one I bought is the Lotus ELAN 193, with only about 40.000 milles on it....Drove it about 200 KMS, the day I bought it, I got HGF failure...No fighting W/ the dealer, not pleasant at all!

Bob, thank you so much for useful info! The Jag Technical bulletion nr. 86-176, which is within my VIN number, states that the CD auto changer is part number LXF 4160CA...While my investigations show that it should be LXF 4160BA...Probably, both units will work.

Sorry mate, I never checked the "full" functionality of the BMW Alpine unit, but I did power it up on the bench to eject the 6CD carrier - at the price it seemed like a cheap way to get an "extra" 6CD holder. Swapping out a set of "appropriate" CD's is much faster when the wife decides to come along for ride!

It sure was! Regarding the wife, and the "immediate need" to swap Cdīs, I KNOW EXACTLY/PRECISELY what you mean!
Funny/interesting that women from the world over react exactly the same way, as far as somethings are concerned....
