A quick update regarding my S1.
I'd always loved the look of the early cars dials with their chrome surrounds, much more in keeping with the surroundings in my opinion. These dials when they come up for sale command decent money on EBay and I'd always had something with a higher priority to spend the money on. A while back an early car was advertised as a restoration project on the XJ Series Facebook group. After a couple of months with no takers the guy decided to break it. Sad but inevitable. I made an offer for the dials and some other bits and soon I had them delivered.
They weren't going to be a direct replacement as I wanted to keep the mileage correct and the dials were also calibrated for a 2.8 wheras mine is the 4.2. So, after a judicious soaking in WD40 to preserve the gaskets between the glass and instruments I screwed the faces off the dials very carefully and swapped them over.
The central minor gauges were also split with my instruments fitted to the donor chrome faces. The clock had to be changed for the earlier type because the opening is different and I found out it doesn't work. Never mind, I will get it repaired. I think you'll agree, the interior is much improved.
Also, if you use your XJ at night, I can't recommend an LED bulb conversion for the dials highly enough...

Thanks guys! I had mentioned I was after a back seat as the leather on the seats in this were brittle and cracked. After asking on the Facebook page if anyone had a rear seat one of the guys came back to me to say he had a set of retrimmed seats out of a Series 1 project that the guy had given up on and broken. £150 for retrimmed seats that had never been sat on was way too good to miss! So, I nabbed them, give them a clean and a good feed and fitted them.
