Pictures show she's talking about the crash roll, Carl. On a car as unloved as hers was it's not surprising the vinyl was cracked.

Cool Dash

Here, Jose from Marina del Rey, CA helped me with the dash. He decided to put a thin foam lay under the new vinyl. (this is a real one! not plastic!)

Lightbulb insulation

The old floor insulation It was totally broken. We repair some of the pieces to keep it pristine but also we made new ones. Here you can see a repaired one. I didn't finish with a new acoustic insulation because we are still not decided about the stereo system (please if anyone has a good sound system let me know, ideas are welcome).

Cool feet vents

The feet vents or I don't know how to call them had a plastic clips that were broken. Plus they have another plastic that should keep them on place but they weren't strong enough for the return spring. I made new ones from a bolts and nuts.

Default Studs

I'm making new studs for the dash vents. the originals are too weak. Then I'm going to fill the screw hole with glue and paint them.

Lightbulb New dash!

we've just received the new dash! we are very happy. Here the glove box with the new leather. This is not the original color but we fall in love with this. The carpet... we can't decide yet... very difficult but the most probable this will be the combination.

Question Seats

We are taking apart the seats. Mr. Louie Mesa is in charge for the leather. We are taking apart the seats for him. sand blast, paint (or maybe powder coating) before the new leather. The front seats frame were black but the rear lower seat frame is green (why? were mine aftermarket?).

Wink Climate control

I'm taking apart all the climate control modules. I want to make sure everything works before the upholstery goes on the top. Vacuum hose were very bad and some of the micro switches were completely stuck. this is going to take long.

Debbie:

That is concours +++ work. The end result will be a fabulous car.

The plastic is a disappointment in a car of this quality!!! One would expect better.

My car has a plastic grill in front of the windshield. Chrome over a yuk yellow
plastic. It was peeling off and looked bilious... I removed it carefully. it was to be secured by two plastic pins into a mastic. Lo and behold, mine only had one from the get go. I scraped off the most of the flaking chrome. I selected a rattle can of what I thought was a chrome paint. Ugh, not so, aluminum like. But, it looked decent, kinda like cast alloy!!! I used it. I drilled a teeny hoe in the spot of the missing pin. I screwed in a small screw. I cut the head off. Presto, better yet.

On reflection, flat black would have been a better choice. That glare in the sun thing.

Nope, it stays that way....

As to the dash and rear pads, I wonder which does best in sun, vinyl or leather????

My cars have "rugs" to protect the vinyl from the UV's.

Debbie,
A period Becker radio is best.
Then install a preamp and a Bluetooth device for using a smart phone.
Kind regards,
Giovanni

The factory hoses were of low quality.
Buy the best tubing for replacement.
The switches can be purchased at a wholesale electrical supplier.
They cost around $3.00@.
Use a light silicone or lithium grease.

Default Stereo

Hi Guys.

Lots of good news. Soon I'll post pictures. We went back to San Diego to check for the upholstery. Honestly its better than we thought. We are not still decided for the carpet color yet... We don't want to kill the leather color but I think we should go for a dark color. We like light colors but they are to easy to get dirty...
The stereo: Yes, we are going to install the original radio. We are going to modify it so its is going to have connection to a Mini Ipad (is going to be in the center console). The Mini Ipad is going to supply the MP3 music and stream music. Also the GPS Navigator and the amplifier control. We are going to keep the speaker at the doors (better ones with the same size to fit in the original door panel 'box'). Then two subwoofers on the back tray (the upholstery is going to cover them, so is going to look original. And finally two amplifiers under the front seats. ( I had to make an aluminum new case for one of them to fit). Now running wires before the upholstery is coming.
Also install the control remote for the doors. and we bought the truck solenoid from a S3. The S2 didn't have it. So the trunk button of the our control remote is going to work too.
Does anybody has experience with the automatic starter control? Now Is see all the new cars automatically stopping when they are more than 3 seconds in idle and starting at the TPS signal. I can't sleep so I'm probably going to install it too.

Waiting for parts to finish the climate control.

The idea of the mini Ipad was from the new 2016 XJ-L that I saw at the 2015 LA Autoshow.

Hey Debbie, I thought you were done with the project some time ago, looks like you've come back to take it to ever closer to perfection

the new insulation, is that stock or dynamat kinda stuff? Got a source?
Thanks
