Default 1984 XJ6 series 3

Good evening all, Thanks for accepting me . I am currently trying to complete a motor swap in a Vanderplus edition of a 1984 XJ6, series 3. The car was sitting in an open field with hood up, both gas caps open , interior crumbling. I am trying to get this car back on the road for our Lawyer. I have purchased used fuel tanks that are clean, 4.2 liter engine out of a 1986, full used interior pieces minus door cards.I've finished repairing the floor pans, applied rust convertor OSPHO , and 2 coats of por-15. Swapped out motor and transferred the old accessories to newer motor. My problem is both engine wiring harnesses are brittle and breaking apart, fuel injector harness, ignition harness, every wire on motor is beyond repair. I priced replacement harness's and fell over, $1300.-$1100. I am located in Virginia where there are no Jaguar mechanics to be found, and only one used parts vendor is South Carolina .So my query is has anyone an extra harness they are willing to part with ? In the mean time i have botched together enough of a harness to try to hear the engine run, but the wiring to the coil and resistor on coil are gone. I have purchased a Haynes and a Jaguar repair books, but they fall short on electrical wiring. Can anyone help me get this wiring routed to get the motor to fire off and run ?

First, do you have the S57 wiring guide? You'll need it.

As for the harness contact David at
https://everydayxj.com/

He can fix up with decent used harnesses. They won't be perfect but should at least be complete.

Cheers

Here are a few diagrams that may help. Ground wires at the back of water rail should be checked, as they will trump all others for a no start. look at the many forum posts for no start "checklist"

Default Engine Harness

Hi Bowtietrks2
I had a similar problem to you with a crappy engine harness. I bought a second hand harness from someone interstate which proved to be almost as bad as as mine so decided to make my own. All the connectors are available online and I used silicon covered cable of various colours.(they did other match the Jaguar colour scheme). I did reuse the two white connectors at the back of the motor that connect to the CPU as I didn't fancy having to replace both sides of those cables. I used the S57 manuals to confirm connections and the old harness for cable lengths and routing. It took some weeks to complete the harness then I checked it several times before taping it all up. Works good and I know I shouldn't have any more problems with that harness for a long time. Mind you, there is plenty of other harnesses that can cause problems on these cars. They are quite old and cabling seems to be fairly inferior right from the start. Good luck with your restoration, sounds like it'll be a big one. If you need any info about the harness let me know
Regards
Con

I have one from a 1983 XJ. Trouble is that it is part of a complete 4.2 engine and if I sell it, it leaves the engine dead.
this Coil harness is always the first to go.

you can view or download the S57 Wiring Guide from my website:

JagCad = The owner wants to hear the motor run , before he dumps more money into it. I plan to get it started 10-15 sec video , then shut off, so no belts , or hoses this time...
