Default XJ40 engine in a Series 3

Is it possible to fit an XJ40 (AJ6) engine and gearbox into a series 3 without modifications?
Anyone done it?
Thanks
Claude

Not easy, it will fit but you will have to make and cobble together many solutions like motor mounts, radiator, hoses and supports.

The killer app is to use a AJ6 or AJ16 from a donor XJS. This way will be shockingly easy. It will be as if jag intended to do this themselves. radiator, coolant hoses, a/C lines will all fall into place with minor modifications. Most items will bolt in place with no changes at all. You can even use the complete exhaust system from the XJS with a few mods. This works out becasue the XJS is an evolution of the series 2/3 XJ platform. You will need a custom length driveshaft when using an XJS as a donor, the front 1/2 of you existing drive shaft will need to be shortened a few inches. This way you can train the XJ's 2 piece and the smooth running.

Hello, I did a AJ16 Supercharged engine with GM 4l80 automatic transmission into 1985 Series 3 chassis. A lot of items bolted right in with some modifications. Power steering hoses had to be lengthened. Transmission cooler location modified. Intercooler modified. Shortened driveshaft. A/C condenser from a XJS. A/C hoses from 1995 XJ6 went right in. I could go on and on but the end result was worth it.

@Larry Louton how did you go fitting the 4L80, They aren't a small transmission.

The opening size of the tunnel is large enough to fit the 4L80. it is a tight fit but it does fit. There is another story going on now in this Series 3 forum where the man is fitting a Jaguar 6.0 V-12 into a Series 2 Vehicle which has the same Transmission as my car. I give him a lot of credit.

https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...4-xj12-264643/ It is being done as we read. Series 3 and Series 2 have the same basic chassis.. This a good read into how to do it.
