Default 1985 XJ6 engine shake

My 1985 XJ6 with 117,000 miles has a very low idle speed, or shake. My mechanic changed the spark plugs, and the distributor rotor and still shakes and sometimes it dies...

Any suggestions please??

I begin by cleaning the throttle body and maing sure the throttle is set to the proper .002" clearnace..... but the "could be" list is very long:

Jorge:

Wel, your "mechanic" did the quick and easy. Sometimes works and sometimes not. This time, the latter!

The shaking and dying at idle means the engine isn't developing enough HP to keep runningl

Too low an idle speed setting or a low speed miss in one or more cylinders.

A wet and dry compression test is needed to assess engine condition. If it is poor, all the other considerations are doomed to failure.
