1987 s3 xj6 engine turnover but no start issue
Need some advice. When I turn the ignition key to start, the engine turns over but will not start. I measured 34psi at the fuel rail so I am ruling out a fuel issue. I just put a noid light on each injector and cranked.. I viewed a dim flicker of the noid light as I cranked for each injector. The cold start injector and extra air valve (injector?) each stayed lit solid while I cranked the engine. What would be a next step? Thanks Ren
By the way when checking for spark (as Doug says) pay particular attention to the distributor rotor arm.
I have seen this fail internally and short to earth on a few occasions.

I purchased an inline spark tester and tested each plug. The tester flashed for the plug that was being tested so I conclude I have spark. I should seeing I have a new coil, plugs, ignition wires, distributor cap, pickup coil and ignition amplifier. As previously mentioned, the fuel gauge I installed showed 34 psi at the fuel rail while cranking so I also conclude I have fuel . I should as I replaced the fuel pump and fuel filter. I should note the car performed really well the last time I got it started. Quite well in fact.
Okay, in my original post, I mentioned the Noid light test showed a brief, really weak glimmer of the filament as I tested each injector pulse. What's my next test/thing to test?

And the ignition module at the front of the block, right hand side? If this fails, and they do fail (less often on the 6 cylinder than on the V12). The failure point is the GM Delco module inside, D1906.
