Yeah, that choice thing. I respect it.
I hope DOT and the cops have other stuff to pay attention to!! and, I do think that neither has you or others on their radars.
Four 5/14's was a styling thing back then. Some of the car makers submitted it to DOT and got approval. Others just felt they had to stay with the times. Four beats two???
Jaguar could well have gotten an OK from DOT for it's combo of 7's and 5 1/4's, but just decided, why, let's just do the four 51/4's for the "yanks". and avoid the buerocrats.
I've read of one guy just opening his trim rings. Neat and did look decent.
Heck, I am pleased when they respond correctly. They have recently!!!

i dont know how to post pictures, but the lights I have are the 7 inch lights, made by lucas, with the pilot light(small 5 watt bulb) they are domed and look like factory lights. i sourced them from victoriabritish.com, search for Triumph, Spitfire, 1978, headlight. The catalog will come up and on page 149 is the lights i used, part #10-618. They are about 70usd for the pair and use an H4 bulb. I also used the 7 inch headlight bucket set from them to fit the headlights into the jag, 10-664. it is not a direct bolt in and required a little fabrication and cutting, but for 40usd, i think it was worth the price. So for about 180usd i converted my car to 7in lights, 7in rings, lights, buckets.

Another popular upgrade for the truck guys with 7" round headlights is to use the late model Jeep JK composite 7" headlights which are stock equipment using an H13/9008 style bulb. I build HD relay upgrade kits using them for the truck guys-much more light output than the sealed beam H6024 assemblies. Just another option.

7 inch headlights for XJ6 series 3
Hello all. I realize that I may be posting in wrong area, but I just wanted to see if there is still interest in the 7 inch headlight conversion "kit". As it is, I bought the buckets, headlights and trim rings back in 2007, as well as the headlight switch (form the UK). I also had installed the Cibie fog lamps, so the switch was required (as well as allowing me to have all 4 lights on in Hi-beam mode). To make a long story short, I am considering selling the lights as I may be parting out the car. I am just testing waters as far as interest goes. If interested, please let me know! thank you in advance.

7" headlights
I can't remember when I posted previously on this topic, but you can take several steps to get them. First, shop for old Triumph and MG 7" buckets - retaining rings are easy to come by and you may find them included with the buckets. The hard part is finding the headlight rings and I would recommend using E-bay UK as a source. The 7" lights are standard equipment over there.
