If you take the whole assembly out (pedals and booster), it's fairly obvious as I reassembled mine having rebuild the booster. Trouble is it was 1998 or 99 so I can't remember the detail. The wide 'loop' of that spring fits round the brake lever at the top. If you do proceed to take off the whole assembly on its aluminium plinth, remember to remove the rubber pedals from the levers as the hole in the bulkhead is too small to allow them to come through.

thanks for the info.

still confused though. the loop pictured can also go down to a simlar shape piece of metal. and will do so easily. for me to get it around that top piece will be very difficult or require removal of the assembly.
