84 xj6 Suffering leaky windshields.
I recently removed all of my seats for restoration and I am hoping to repair the leaky windshields before I reinstalled my seats. I have noticed the rubber seals are coming off in certain areas and looking for some pointers of reinstalling the seals. Not sure if anybody has done this before but any help will be appreciated...My floors were all wet when I removed the carpets hence the smell....

Classic problem with XJ6 S3
Join the club......Jaguar used a bonded windscreen process that will leak and cause rust to form around the seals and leak water into the footwells.
Here is a link to a guy from Texas who has written about the XJ6.

Never done it myself, so I'm no help there in terms of actual pointers. But the rubber around the windshield has nothing to do with the sealing against leaks....although it does a good job of sealing IN any water that gets in there :-)
If you have a leak the glass will probably have to come out for a re-seal although you might be able to just add some more sealant around the glass. A little hokey but it might do the trick.
I'd be worried that rust has already taken hold and the water is coming in thru the rust holes.
Good luck

As for leaking windshields and and rear window seals. Dont screw around with adding goop around the thing. Order a FULL seal kit and drive down to your nearest windshield repair shop and have it placed in correctly. 99% of them can remove the chrome safley and put everything back together and keep it pretty. At the same time this will allow the car owner the chance to inspect the ENTIRE seal area for rust and get it fixed befor it becomes a Huge rust hole
