Default '84 XJ6 Thermoswitch Question

In my ongoing work on my problems with leaking and overheating, I discovered today that the thermoswitch for the electric fan was disconnected. Since the repair manual I have says "make a note of the location of the electrical leads," I'm a little stumped on how to hook them up. I would just try it both ways, but I'm not even certain if the switch is still good!

Anyone know which one goes where, or at least have a pic of how theirs is hooked up?

Thanks!

It's just an on-off switch. Doesn't matter which way the wires are connected.

Does the e-fan work of you touch the two wires together?

Cheers

It does not. It may be a fuse, but I can't seem to find a fuse diagram for the under-bonnet box.

It's the #1 fuse (forward most) in the underhood fuse box.

Okay. I checked through, and have determined that I have power to the relay. When I connect the two leads, I can hear the relay click, but the fan does not turn on.

At this point I'm assuming I had a bad fan motor . . .

Check the voltage at the fan motor to be sure the relay isn't defective.

Okay. For some strange reason the fan came on this morning while I was driving around. So now I have to conclude I have a loose connection somewhere. Joy.
