Default '86 XJ6 AC Compressor

I'm gonna have to have AC so I am planning a repair. The pulley bearing is frozen on my car; hence the PO cut the belt.
Does anyone run the new replacement for the old GM A6 compressor? For about the same money I am considering it.

I haven't used one but I'd surely buy one if I needed to replace an old A6

Cheers

I'm in the same boat, Wascator, recently tried getting a charge through my A/C system (enough sufficient to test its operation safely) only to find that its dead and refusing to turn on. Compressor also doesn't run when attached to the positive post and A/C on (although I celebrated when the air flaps all closed correctly and at least "less hot" air began flowing from the center vent).

I was considering going with one of these. They promise to be lighter and higher performing than the original A6s while also being a direct bolt-in replacement. Can't tell from your picture if it is the same thing.

It looks a little different, maybe. I have seen at least two that appear to be different, so far.
At least one says it has Teflon-coated pistons. Most have this now, it is also the source of the "black death" when compressors fail: the Teflon is scraped off the failing piston(s) and circulates in and clogs the system. I would not let that stop me from buying one; just sayin'...

I've got one on my 87 xj12. The mounts line up perfectly for a direct bolt in. It's about half as heavy as the old A6. Seems to work great. I have converted the system to R-134a.
