Default 86 xj6 rebuilt trans slipping.

So my original Borg Warner on my 86 xj6 series 3 died and I found a "rebuilt" one on eBay a while back for $150 from someone who purchased it to replace the one in their car, but ended up lumping the car instead... So the trans looked like a ligitamit rebuild due to the way things were sealed and there were new gaskets installed. I purchased a new torque converter and put in new fluild an adjusted the bands after the first drive. I adjusted the kick down cable and everything worked perfectly fine for 2 months maybe 500-1000 miles max. Now the trans slips after about 2 minutes. If I let it cool for a day I get just a little bit a grab before it acts like it is in neutral. I am out of ideas and really don't want to pull the trans again if I don't have to.

Thanks!!

wow I am sorry to hear about the tans trouble you're having =\ I know how much work it is replacing one... ALOT! I've had to do it before, I cant Imagine having to do it twice.

have you checked the shift linkage to make sure that's all still tight?
other than that and double checking the bands I don't know what else to tell you. I hope its not a bum tranny you got. hopefully others will jump in with better advice than mine soon, there are far more knowledgeable members than I.

Yes, I have adjusted the bands again. I feel as though I will need to purchase another rebuilt trans or try and rebuild this one myself. Anyone have any good how to guides on the bw 66 trans.

Have you dropped the pan to see what muck there might be in there ? If adjustment doesn't work it may be stripdown time, unfortunately. These are normally pretty robust units. Could it be the torque converter one-way clutch rather than the gearbox ?
