If one's Jaguar has a beautifuly detailed engine, it should be displayed... Not hidden from view...

As I recall, my car's first victory ap after getting the transmsssion to transmit, was sans hood and exhaust, around the block.

And, as I recaal., trhe bonnets are open at concours or car shows !!!!

Almost ready to pull th 4.2. Only things left are trans mount, drive shaft and linkage, and power steering hoses... took a couple of hours, but got a late start, and had to quit due to mosquitoes.... that will be all until maybe next weekend, depending on how much Christmas decorations wife wants up!!!

 

If anyone. Needs any parts let me know, ots pretty much all good except engine itself..... has the mini starter, ac comp works, no leaks in condenser, etc etc..

Carl - I always have admirers admiring my Series II Coupe. And I never hesitate to ask if they want to see the engine. Most of the time I think they are humoring me when they say yes. But when I open the engine compartment and show them the very detailed 4.2L overhead cam six, their facial expressions and glees of joy are heart warming. So, yes, show off the engine if it's a crown jewel!

Yes I still have to provide sheathing to the bundle of wiring in the upper left of the pic. Working on a project over there. And if it wasn't there it would be somewhere else!

Decided yesterday to get under jag, undo trans mount and driveshaft and pull the motor.. welllllll... didnt happen! As I was jacking car up with my 2 year old harbor freight 3 ton floor jack, there was a loud pop and car dropped with a vengeance!! Thought for a second I had misplaced the jack and it had ripped through floor! But nope, it had literally just failed! Fluid everywhere! Seals inside totally gone! And its had rust pits all inside!!!
I hadn't even gotten a chance to place the jack stands yet, so... what's a guy to do.. go tomatoes and buy a heavy *** jack and lift into cart, then. Out of cart into car then out of car into garage??? Hell no, too old! Lol Amazon!!!! New jack will be there tuesday!!! Maybe I will get motor out Next weekend..

 

A teaching opportunity. WOWWWW . never, ever under on only the jack !!!!

A decade or so, I gave one away. It failed, but not as "explosive". Merely lost the ability to lift!!
The guy that got it said he knew how to fix it. Sure, replace the seal, but, how escaped me.

A couple of years ago, I got another one. HF again!! Don't I learn?? And, h oh, included was an extra seal!!!! So far, so good. But,. I'm safe. No longer able to go down and under...

We have a good rain spell in progress. Hibernation, the order. Football. More turkey...

Partial lights out issue fixed. Beware, do not over load the circuits!! . Breaker for 1/2 the house tripped / Last n ight. Did work around til dawn. Aware of not to go out in the dark to reset..
reset. Now, the lights are all on!!!

Keep chugging on the lump. When done, they are so great....

Thankfully you were not in harms way. Hopefully all four tires were still on the car so the body didn't drop right to the floor.

Well, nothing has been touched, and I still dont have my jack.. shipping date changed after I placed my order, now I should have it by the 10th.. it's my own fault I suppose, shoulda just gone out and picked one up!!!
Gives me time to hang Christmas lights.. lol

 

Got the engine out today, engine bay is super greasy. 30 odd years of leaks.... will post some pics later, really need a shower!!

 

If you plan on pressure washing the engine bay, do not get the insulation in the transmission get wet. Remove it from the car, dry clean it and re-install.
If you wet it it takes weeks to dry out and during that time it begins to deteriorate and stink to high heaven when you start the car and it gets hot. (Ask me how I know this)
It definitely will be greasy. It is fiberglass sandwiched between a heavy aluminum foil.
(Unless it has been removed prior to your ownership).

 

In case you decide to ditch the tunnel blanket. this product from summit works well. Its also full across the firewall under the factory cardboard. I'll have to get the brand name for you tomorrow.

 

Luckily it wasn't bad at all back in that area, got away with pretty much just pressure washing the cross member and up where the oil cooler lines run, was really bad there...



Engine came out quite quickly and easily, the load leveler is one of those things you wonder how you lives without...

 

Looking great.

I ditched the oil soaked transmission blanket and replaced it with nothing. No ill effects at all.

Same with the moth eaten bear rug thig on the underside of the bonnettt. same result. Out with it and replaced with nothing. So far just fine. Plan to shot with bed liner never executed.

The cross member of my car was caked with goop. Oven cleaner got it. Paint too. Easy. Rustoleu black made it neat.

I gave the shields on the fire wall a shot of silver and they look good.

 

Now the FUN begins.

 

No updates at all, car still sits as last seen, I have. Been told I am not allowed to have dirty hands until after new years, and being as I do all the cooking, I think she may be right on this one!!!
I was going to start the wiring in of the firebird fuse block and relays for fans and such but thinking it is better to wait until motor is sitting in place so I dont have to move stuff if its in wrong spot..

Anyways for anyone that is actually following this slow moving thread, have a Merry Christmas!!!!
