Aerial stuck.......removal
Once again I am in need of some guidance. I have done some research and have found plenty on the series three but not much on my 2 series. My aerial is stuck down and I can hear the motor working when I press the toggle switch on the centre arm console (I assume this is the aerial up/down swich as nothing in any of the manuals about this and just what I have read.) From research the aerial is accessible through the rear tail light....is this correct? I plan to remove the unit and take it apart as it would appear that they get stuck over time with lack of use....am I on the right track? Also is the motor part of this unit or somewhere else in the boot (or trunk).
As always I await any imput.
This may be a stupid question but ...am I using it correctly?

in the Series 3, the aerial / antenna goes up & down automatically when you turn the radio ON or OFF.
not sure about the Series 2. If you have a switch for it, all the better.
you can remove the tail light assembly on the wing where the antenna is, and at the worst case, the motor itself will be in the spare tire compartment in the boot.
sounds like the toothed cable is broken or disengaged.

'72 Jaguar has power antenna with a toggle switch
After finding a power antenna that would fit in the rear behind the tank, not in the lower trunk area, it was desired to control the antenna mast movement.
Not wanting to wear out the antenna by going up/down each time the key is turned on/off, I mounted a toggle switch under the dash... it
will remain in the same position - until the switch is used.

Well I removed the tail light and the mast is easily accessible through the gap. I then took the rear panel off from the boot(trunk),between the spare wheel and the bumper and the motor is also easily accessible this way.My problem is I don't know which end of the black cable joining the motor and mast is detachable as this cable is fed through the body panel .......Don't want to force anything!
Has anyone done this on a s2 before? are s1 the same?
When I pull this apart I'll put up some pics as there doesn't seem to be much info on this setup. It does look factory fitted nicely between the fuel filters etc for the 2 tanks.

Used to be, every time I saw a Jag XJ6 s3 at the Pull a Part nearby, I would snag the Aerial (antenna assembly) just in case.( the fuel tank switch & return valves fall into this category as well) If the one in the car crapped out and (and needing to find another one) I would have another as a spare(s). Some things like this on these cars can be difficult to source - NLA My thinking was,...if its hard to find,.. it does not take much room to store it until needed, then buy it while its possible..especially if it gets a lot of "switched use" -on and off or up and down motion that could wear the thing out easily. No one seems to care about these items until they break then you got to locate another from a dwindling supply
