Default Air pump plug size

So I purchased 1/8" BSP plugs for my air pump system but they just drop down into the hole the rail came off of. I bought this size according to a few threads I saw.

Are the pieces that the rail threads into simply adapters that thread into the head? Do I need to remove these and that is where the plugs go or am I just totally off on the size?

The rail looked to tighten down as a compression fitting so I'm guessing those are adapters that come out, but now the sun is down, so I can't check.

Thanks all.

EDIT: 1987 4.2 XJ6

Hi sidescrollin,

For Series 3 XJ6 six cylinder 1/8 BSP Tapered plugs should fit the bill.

I note your signature is 87 4.0 XJ6

Series 3 only came with 4.2 straight six or 5.3 V12

It could be that you have an XJ40 XJ6 in which case, above plugs may well not fit as the XJ40 was fitted with the AJ6 engine.

Good luck,

Nigel

Sorry, I haven't had this car long and have had several 4.0 L cars so I keep thinking its a 4.0

My question is mostly about the adapter I guess. Does that short piece also need to be removed and the plugs go directly into the head?

Adapters, yes.

Remove them and then your plugs shoud go right into the cylinder head

Cheers

Thanks for confirming. Pulling the dead pump and rail cleans up the engine bay quite a bit.

That area looks a lot neater and access to the spark plugs is much improved.

I also bought some 1/8 to soon plug my '85 so I'd be interested to hear if these worked for the OP.
