Question Cruise control modernisation S3

Snowy day in Niagara so the devil has found a use for my idle mind.

Got to thinking ... never a good thing as I am often told.

I love my cruise control and use it very often - I do a fair amount of highway driving. The only thing that I do not like is the lack of an "Accel/Decell" function. I end up having to turn the system off and then reset it each time an idiot - usually driving a pickup - cuts me off.

Is there such a system that could be hooked up?

The 'set' button at the end of the stalk has an 'accel' function. After engaging the system to xxx-speed just press the set button and the speed will increase. The speed at which the button is released becomes the new set speed. You can make gross or minute adjustments.

Plus, the system does have a 'resume' feature on the console.

No 'decel' function, though.

All that said you could always install a full aftermarket cruise control kit. Haven't searched for one in years but I'm sure they're out there. Years ago I used an Audiovox kit on a Series III and it worked well

Cheers

Thanks Doug,
I was not aware that there was an Accel function. So in practice, if I set a speed andhave to slow down, my right hand turns the system "Off".

If I then select Resume, do I go back to my original speed?

If so, in accelerating back to that speed, can I hit the set and set a new speed?

If I wished to set a higher than original speed, do I just hold the set button in until I reach that new speed?

Still learning after all these years.

No, if you select 'off' then the memory of previous speed is lost and you'll have to start all over again. "Resume" won't work in that scenario.

However, if you use (or even tap) the brakes to slow down the system will disengage, obviously. Pressing 'resume' will then bring you back to the previously set speed.

Yes

I'm not sure how the system responds to holding the 'set' button while it is in 'resume' mode, if that's what you mean. I don't think I've ever tried it. But, if you use 'resume' to reach the previously set speed you can then use the set button to increase the speed. When you release the button you'll have a new set speed.

Cheers

Got it!
I've got another issue understanding the Turn indicator system. Will post another. Get your coffee ready, cause you may have the answer to this new one!

A couple of comments:

1. I've found that using cruise in traffic is more trouble than an aid, and even a danger. On long open road, definitely. Around here, I5, just right.

2 Decades ago, I did install an Audivox on my 60 IHC Scout II. It worked just right. And, it's bellows was more like a PB booster, metal. Not the fabric of the Jag version

3. I've never bolted in the bellows of my Jaguar's unit. I just don't miss it.

4. There are GM style electronic means of pulling the throttle in CC that are interesting.
