Are all ECUs created equal?

Are all ECUs created equal?
Hi all? How's it going?
I have just picked up a spare ECU (the one from the boot) from a parts yard for next to nothing, it came out an 85 Jag that had been in a smash (sadness over came me as I plundered all the good parts) any how I'm pretty certain this ECU is from an car equip with emission control. The unit shares the same part number and everything barring that this one has "Mark V" written on it.
My question is: Is this going to work in my 80 non emission jag?
I'm thinking I'll keep this as a spare in-case my one fails, although I hear they don't fail often.
As always, Thanks for your help

There were several part numbers, but.....
I think the *primary* difference is with or without oxygen sensors. Then, under each of those two choices there were two or three sub-choices.....which I suspect would be minor tuning differences and probably not significant; perhaps not even detectible to the driver.
Others will chime in
Cheers

I agree with Doug, but I am V12 orientated.
My '85 had a 6CU unit, and it did what it did, fine.
Mate totalled his '88 V12 Sedan (S3), and gave me the ECU, as it was a 16CU unit, far superiour unit. His '88 had O2 sensors, my '85 did not, mm.
Looked ath the multi pin plug of said ECU in the '85, and lots of vacant positions (as in NO wires at all), and when I checked the chart, they were mainly for O2 sensors etc, sooooooo, no wires, no signal, works for me. His '88 plug obviously had wires etc in those positions.
Both ECU's had ALL the pins in place, and as above, I simply decided that if there is no signal being given to a pin/circuit, it can do nothing. I plugged the thing in and drove off, best "upgrade" I ever did.
