Hopefully I'm in correct forum (86 XJ6 s3). Tail light compartment exposed, antenna detached from cable to motor, motor in boot exposed . I think plastic cable with teeth is inside motor, making removal of motor necessary. So 2 questions at this point...

behind the bumper there is a hole and rubber grommet or rubber boot.

the antenna with cable is pulled out through that hole in reverse. The motor assembly bolts are removed so you can pull the entire motor and antenna from the trunk.

 

It worked! I'll contact Retro Manufacturing re their unit. Thanks, thanks.
