Default Anyone have info on this beautiful interior?

Hello all. I'm an x350 guy. Not really familiar with the 70s and 80s stuff. I generally think the exteriors are beautiful, but there's something about the gearshift in these older ones that just turns me off. It's weird. It's not the car's fault. It's MY fault. Totally mine.

At any rate, I can't help looking at cars even though I don't need another car, and I came across an '85 XJ. Beautiful green exterior, and this red interior.

What is this interior? Aftermarket? Rare? I'm smitten with it!

Any info would be greatly appreciated!

Wow, that’s quite some interior! It’s even on the trim at the top of the door card which would normally be lacquered wood.

I can’t imagine it was a factory option, even in the US, especially as it looks like a Daimler model with the individual rear seats.

Perhaps it was owned by an alligator farmer?

Looks like a good professional job was done, probably unique I would suggest.

Defiantly not factory. Kind of odd that there are no rear headrests, the VDP/Daimler interiors would have had that.

Owned by a Southern Fella, and its all custom. The gearshift lever used to be kinda wimpy looking, but since owning several Jags I like em since the XJ6 is not exactly a
muscle car. It can be modified.

@Jagboi64 I'm assuming the seats were in major need of repair and he just decided to drop the headrests.

@Brewtech Yes! It's here in Atlanta! What else do you know about it? Can you tell me more about modifying the gearshift?

The more I think about this the more viable it is. Currently looking at places to store it, as the pattern here at home is FULL.

Thanks!

I too wasn't a fan of the XJ6 OEM shifter and knob before owning one. One of the first things I did was replace the "knob" with something that matched the dash instead of that black plastic two-piece knob. It made all the difference in the world. I am more than happy with it. And my hand rests on it all the time.

Interesting! The whole thing just seems so delicate and insubstantial to me! I'll keep this in mind.

Q:. What is this in place of the driver's ashtray?

Thanks!

The digital read-out is a temperature sensor I installed in the upper radiator hose. More accurate than the analog OEM gauge. Don't know what temp the M is in NORMAL. The red switch was going to be for turning the A/C clutch on and off at will. But found out the complicated Delinair switching mechanism works just fine.

Its made of steel and not delicate at all. But the mods Ive seen are simple. All you need is flat steel with holes drilled into it and a wood knob. Or just buy a Hurst shifter.

I love the transmission shifter. My hand just naturally rests there too. It feels elegant. If it was a manual transmission maybe you would need it more sturdy but for an automatic it works fine.

The shift lever is not a deal killer when you have an entire car to enjoy. I drive mine daily and its a pleasure to own. The shift lever is the least of my worries, plus newer cars have no lever or a thin lever too.

That's definitely not from jag. someone spent a ton of money that re-do. do you know if that is alligator skin? either way, it looks great.
what are they asking? did you buy it?

Pretty sure it's Alligator. I reached out to the seller but never heard anything back. I've since stepped back from the car-buying ledger, which is definitely for the best at the moment!
