Auburn Limited Slip upgrade

Auburn Limited Slip upgrade
The 1994 XJS IRS I aquired for my outboard / ABS brake upgrade had factory powerlok but during my 3rd trip out of the garage it became clear the limited slip function of the powerlok diff was not working. The car wouldnt leap forward like it did with my previous 3.31 powerlok and on sudden acceleration I just got wheel spin. I put the car up on the lift and it was acting almost like an open diff with minimial resistance. When I removed the drain plug it had about 1/2 an inch of metal gunk stuck to it.
Time to rebuild the powerlok so I surfed over to my favorite jag parts websites and was suprised how expensive the parts were. Since the Salsbury is very similiar to the Dana 44 I ordered an 19 spline Auburn limited slip diff for a Dana 44, a set of bearings and shims. I was determined to make the Auburn limited slip work becasue they are well respected for quality and performance in the OEM and after market and the price was good.
When I removed the old powerlok the ring and pinion were pefect and there was no wear visable. The bearing were all quiet and the U-joints articualted very smoothly with no notchiness at all. Seems like this IRS was a low mileage unit but I find it strange the powerlok function was warn out so badly on a 6 cylinder car.
The Auburn unit basicall dropped in with minor modifcations to the bolt holes on the carrier. They had to be enlarged using a 29/64th inch drill bit. I made some
setup barings and installed the new carrier and reused my ring and pinion. Cant wait to to get it finished and back on the road.
