Here she is in all her glory a - 1955 Jaguar Mark VII M. She spent the last 30 years or so in Arizona and while the paint is generally in poor condition there is only surface rust here and there. The engine doesn't run, I think the brakes are frozen, and I'm willing to bet the tires were put on when Reagan was still President.
She's big, she's rough, and she needs a lot of love but she has incredible character. Last night I couldn't sleep so I went out to the garage and just sat in her. The inside has that wonderful old car smell - a mix of leather, wood, and a slightly musty smell from being closed up for years.

Since I was 16 (when I got my first car), whenever things got Tense in the house, I've gone out to the garage and just Sat in my car (whatever it was at the time,) and reveled in the Peace and Quite there; immersed in the comforting smells of Wool, Leather and Wood (since I've had this Jag anyway), and all becomes right with the world.
To this day, my Happy Place of Peace and Solace is behind the wheel (moving or not), ALONE, At Night.
Lovely, and the body looks dead straight. I would be surprised if the paint needed more than a light cut and three coats of top quality polish.
Madame would have me certified if I sat in my car at night; but I so understand it!
The Mk. VIIM has a significantly more powerful engine that the Mk. VII and is for sure the model to have. And that engine bay looks absolutely pristine apart from the air filter having gone AWOL. Great project, good luck.
