Default Back on the prowl...

Hey y'all, it's been a while since I've been here (sold my series III).

Thought I would give it a rest for a while. We'll, that didn't last long. As most of ya know once you've driven one, or 5 I my case ha ya can't "shake it".

So, here I am Mr. Cat guy looking for another one. I came across a series 1 that will be going to auction in a couple weeks. Now my question...I've never had had 1 (have always wanted one as they look great to me with the chrome bumpers and tall grill).

But what differences, besides visual are there between the two? I relativly know my way around the III. Never touched a I.

Btw, this is a lumped car. I know, I know, Don't hate me. Ha

Thanks y'all!
KT

The Ser I-II-III cars are remarkably similar in terms of fundamental body structure, brake systems, steering, suspension...things of that nature.

Compared to a Series III, a Series I (assuming no mods other than the V8) won't have automatic climate control, power locks, cruise control. It'll have solid front brake rotors rather than vented. It'll have a shorter (higher numeric) axle ratio. It'll have dual tanks but plumbed differently. having fewer gizmos, the electric system is somewhat less complicated. It won't have a sunroof...as found on virtually all Series IIIs.

There. That's a start! Others will chime in

Cheers

So, what I'm hearing is quite a bit more simplistic and FAR less to go wrong.

Hmm, I'm liking the sound of this more and more. What is a general price these go for? I know condition play a big role. Just looking for ballpark.

Trying to attach pics. Onc I ge it figured out I'll throw some up

Price? Hard to say. The majority of Series I cars I see for sale are a bit tacky; not many super-nice examples out there, it seems. And, if it was an older V8 conversion, well, that's probably a bit tacky, too. A lot of the older conversion jobs were not very sanitary. That's not a condemnation of V8 conversions. Just my observation. I think most conversion enthusiasts would agree.

I'll throw out $1500-$5000 to get the conversation rolling

Cheers

Yes! If yer not gonna (or can't) do a good job, then leave the 6 in it!

Some real hack jobs come across our local Craigs List, of which the owners are inordinately proud!

We just laugh........

Thats what I was thinkin 5K max I need to take into account the 10% buyer premium (ouch...) But it seems well sorted. Interior looks pretty nice and pretty original. I kind of like that. Helps it feel more "jaggy" even though it rumbles ha.

I think I figured out the pics. I have more, just wanted to give a general idea.

You might get lucky and get a sunroof, my S1 has one.

From what the pics show I'd say that it looks like a more-than-decent Series 1

Does the heater and AC work? AC is simplistic in these cars but totally different. It was Jags first attempt at putting all the stuff inside the car (71-73). Have had three S1 Lumps and love my current car...

Yeah, It looks pretty good Doug. Actually from a guys collection. Don't know anything about the gentleman or his caliber of cars. That's one of the issues of buying an auction car. I'm not sure how much (if any) access I'll have to the buyer prior to it going on the block.

So, I'm not sure if the heat and AC work...
