Backfiring through carby's.
Well done.
No issues with the calls, ever.
Yep, we get them in at work, and when you ask if the car is Carby or EFI, waaaaaay too many state "whats a carby?"
Only had 2 guys and 1 girl in 8 years there, ask for contact points, and actually knew what they wanted and what to do with them.
The next generation is in more trouble than this one.

My oil pressure gauge has always run low readings although attaching a manual gauge gives good readings.
just been out to the All British Day 2016 committee meeting and oil pressure is running constant at 60 psi at 60-100 kph and dropping to around 40 at idle. I know the wiring for the gauge is tied up somewhere in the ignition system so the new wiring has sorted that too .
Fireball is running sweet.
Been given the job of rounding up British motorcycle clubs to attend ABD since the last 3 years there has been one bike on display,he has won best motorcycle 3 years in a row.
I'm sure there are plenty of British bike owners out there keen to show their bikes at an all British show.

Victory is sweet, is it not!!!!
My LT1 lump had that low OP ignition interrupt feature. Out of the circuit now. I have an idea that if it ever did shut the engine down it would be too late anyhow. sorta like closing the barn door after the cows are gone...
We got a dose of much needed rain. Wind too!! Email dud. Old wires, I bet. Just got it fixed too!!!
leaves all over the place. Soggy wet. Blower will do nothing. Lawn vacumn on the fritz... So I'll wait til they dry out and them out to the street for the sweeper to get. Lots in the gutters anyway...
Streets too messy for the Jaguar, it is clean. Jeep is too, got a ran bath...

This saga just keeps going, since the back firing I have had a small exhaust leak I thought might be a loose joint. Further investigation today and I have split one of the front mufflers and unrolled the seem.
So off to the exhaust shop Thursday for a pair of stainless jobs. He is going to give it a slightly sportier tone without making it noisy. As he says, just a nice balanced sound.

I went with a kit off Ebay to retrofit my MK2 Jaguar with electronic ignition, the company makes kits for many different distributors
Jaguar XJ6 Electronic Ignition Conversion Module FOR Lucas 25D6 Distributors | eBay
A quick search and I think the link above might be the one you could have used, at a total of $67!!! Bit cheaper than the $300 you just spent, I just sold my complete but rusted out S3 XJ6 for $400
The results on my 3.8 MK2 were nothing short of remarkable, much quicker to start, smoother idle and much stronger pull through the gears, plus it was $67 for that, or I needed a new condenser at $40 at the ignition failed the week before.

After 500 miles done this week I can report the cat is purring and idle is the best I have ever had in 2 years.
Just in time for my son to take the wheel, driving test tomorrow!
Battery died today but Supercheap Auto replaced it without a question or checking it, it would have been 2 years old on the 28/12 with a 3 year warranty. Maybe being a club plus member helped,I don't know but it was the sort of service I expect from a shop I have been using for 26 years.

We were headed for the Sunshine Coast Yesterday, originally taking the bike but got rained out so into the Jag. Got about 5 k's from home and engine cut out, takes a lot of peddle to stop with no booster.
Lifted the bonnet and had a quick look around and wiggled the wiring for the new dizzy and away we went, decided to turn around and return home to get the Jeep rather than risk it stopping 150 km from home in the rain.
Phill is going to replace the rest of the wiring from the harness to the module, coil and whatever else looks a bit dodgy tomorrow then all should be good.
turns out the XJ6 we got the free parts from has a stainless system begging for a second life so off to pick that up sometime this week if the work schedule allows.

Picked up exhaust today, just got to find time to play around with it.

One of the first things on the Nix Fix It List is a complete new exhaust from the manifolds back to the resonators, including new mufflers. I have a new Y-configured cat right here, only need a Y exit and all will be on hand.
I'm SO tired of dragging the cat over grasshoppers in the road! Just look at this travesty!

Holy cow, Elinor, what in the h... is that ?
An effort to emulate the mid 80's car's system that donated it's
guts to NIX?? Single exhaust???
Might check with BAR as to their latest interpretation of the SMOG Reg's. They are good at times and yonky at others!!! (word invented by me).
Sun Coast offered/s a nice pair of down pipes. Reasonably priced.
So, two pipes back to a single cat. Original emmsion package retained.
Thence, the "cat back" package that BAR accepted. and still might.
Enter Jaguar mufflers and resonators.
I guess you'd like to keep/use that cat. they are pricey. And, although other states have a lot of options, of course, CA does not!!!
Off to errands. Jeep's turn. needs gas.

When we actually said we'd take it home, THEN he had to make it SMOG legal for real. It took 10 days for him to put back everything he had taken off, and make it single exhaust, because that's what the 350 came with in 1986 and he had put on duals. Hence the butcher job, which of course we couldn't see at the time of inspection. He did say the cat was a bit low, so watch out for driveways and speed bumps.
As I said, I already have the replacement cat under my desk:
I found a source for the Y pipe for the back,
all that remains is to get one here and take Nix to the muffler shop some dry day.
Sorry about this hijacking, Clarke.
Now back to our regularly scheduled programing.

Much, much better.....
I was "lucky" as the 94 Cadillac Fleetwood Brougham
that donated the power train featured a true dual exhaust system.
I've skated on a couple of details. The cats are aft of the transmission. Should be up close to the manifold, according to some. And, it has an "H" pipe. Little effect on performance, but
tames any "unJauguarlike" back rap on deceleration. Budget determined keeping the Jaguar mufflers and resonators.
Although a PO swapped in little glass packs as resonators.
It works, looks decent, sounds good and so far, passes SMOG!!!

Finally got the new to me exhaust system fitted up today(scored the car back off the "P" plater for a day), my exhaust guy cut and welded to make one great system out of both. The over axle pipes now have 3 bolt flanges instead of slip on joints at both ends making removal a lot easier. Not Prtty but very functional.
The car is so quiet now her indoors didn't hear me come home and drive in and out the garage three times making sure it passed the scape test on my hill. Nearly there with the scraping problem, rear springs and the right profile tyres on the front should finish the job.
All for $205, which I know was cheap as the mechanics wife told me how much trouble he had to go to manipulating the pipes into shape and lift them as high as possible.(he knows my drive and makes sure is work suits it) Off to buy him a carton of Crown Lager first thing tomorrow for the service.

Jeez, I thought that paragraph was spiralling out of control for a second :-)
Nice work on the exhaust, he's a good operator.
LnR , your plans look good. Looking at your pics, the only way is up :-)
