Default "Barn Find" '77 XJC 4.2

So finally got a little further with the Coupe project.
Didnt get a real good description of the whole situation so here's a quick intro.
I've been in the aircooled scene on/off for years and had a dozen and a half beetles, buses. Things and so on.
wanting to move on a put my 58 beetle up for sale and during the summer holiday to a Danish island i put up
adds the old fashion way in every little grocery store where the locals would shop.

A month later the phone rang , a old rusty beaten up Vespa Scooter was offered but of no interest , again - forgot about it.
Again, phone rings , old guy goes . i have a XJ if your interested .. hmm not so much .. " Its a 2 door though" … Aha … alrightie then :lol

I went back to the island and saw it first. A 1977 Series 2 4.2L with engine work done like 20K kms ago. Color im not sure about : its says OPEL 168B on a respray sticker .
Thats a Metro Blue Metallic ? did that maybe correspond to a Jaguar dark blue metallic ..
As im probably going to drop the idea of the Squadron Blue and avoid the sills and so forth needing painting. Its nice in the sun though with the Tan biscuit leather

As i havent got the same access to workshop with Lift etc as we used to have
this project would have to be easier to manage ..
As the pictures shows its a " complete tear down, prep for painter, buy new seals etc , get painted and then total assembly "
So here's the intro story to the PO and the car.
Car used to belong to a Danish writer so well cared for back in the day. Still rusted though. ( winter use maybe?)
The Owner now worked with a Danish Jaguar garage for aprx 30 years both as a panelbeater and a mechanic. He's build and raced MGB with 3,5L Rover V8 Power plants etc so
he knows his stuff. First reason why i'd take this on at all.

So he's done the rust repairs and panels etc and kind of had it ready for paint. Got to sit for a decade but been turned over and started now and then
the distributor is upgraded to electronic , nice. there's a new in box automatic choke unit plus two new factory front fenders for it.
The leather seats are already at his upholsterer who's a retired pro so that gonna be nice
It needs new door seals, window lists etc as they are done but its small things compared to what could be.

So back i went for a second time, spoke price and estimated the whole project. To help get it out the barn and up into his workshop. Pulled it , made a small ding (damn good he's a panel beater :lool, ) and then jacked it up and went through it.
Brakes had some new fluid , came right back up , still needs changing but now it stops :lol.
Installed the buttom plugs in the tanks , ran clean petrol thru and checked no dirt got into the carbs .. all looking good
Charged the battery over night and meanwhile installed the new choke unit, cleaned it up inside,
The next morning we turned the engine over but sounded off in the firing order so checked the cables up against the TDC .
so we knew we had oil pressure, petrol and so .. changed the cables to a 180 degree fit and tried again .. Bum - started right up (check video for the nice surprise, love it when it goes a little easy)

Plan now is simple , Its there on the island til we get the time schedule together: i need a few days to peel off the vinyl roof, remove the last handle and chrome lists, gather up all the loose parts and make sure its all there etc . then a little pre paint prep
and then its ready for the local car dealer to pick it up. He runs empty back to the main land to purchase cars so he can bring it to the painters. )))
Then straight into paint and then i have a few borrowed places on hand for reassembly )

After that its just all hard work and fun i guess

Below is a load of pictures and the video (
) and also the Vin plate. Anyone thats good at reading those, can help with a color and also feel free to comment and indulged in my project. Its fun to Share.

Looking forward
Peter / Copenhagen.

Its another Coupe saved, well done.

The interior looks in real good shape, and it runs, and runs well, bonus.

Good luck.

What a Lovely and Dignified example of Classic Jaguar!
Or, she Will be dignified soon as you get all her parts back on.
Good Job saving another elderly Princess!

Default XJC - another one saved

My XJC is the same color. As it needs a new interior, I considered a change from the original black to a new biscuit, but will likely stick with black.
