In addition to Jose's advice, I will say you will wiggle and jiggle, pull and shove, perhaps utter a few choice words, and then without your knowing what you did or how, the blower will simply fall out in your hands. I have removed 4 of these.
However, you do NOT want to try forcing it with tools! Opening the lower flap closes the upper flap which extends into the fresh air intake just under the windshield beneath the grill, and allows the fan assembly to be removed through a precisely fitting hole.
By now the original nylon links between the two flaps are hard and brittle and if you break them THERE ARE NO REPLACEMENTS ON PLANET EARTH!
So, in the words of another member, one must use Gentle Violence to get the fan loose and into your hands without damage.
Elinor, do you mean the nylon Pins? they are available.
the XJ uses them in many places.
one place is under the rear seat. There are plastic covers on each corner held by these pins.
another place where there are 4 nylon pins is at the front bumper black plastic finisher.
previous models like the S type and 420 of the 1960s also used the same pins.
I have a packet of them. got them from Jaguar Services in Illinois. Have replaced a few in both my blower case linkages.
Well, I'll be Jiggered as my old Grandad would say!
Thank you, Jose, I obviously had No idea these were available.
I'll learn to ask you about all arcane bits of Jaguarania before I post their extinction.

yes but what I didn't tell you was the date I bought two of those pin packs. Must have been 20 years ago! So you might be correct about their being extinct.
Dear Jiggerers; i hear what you say; i wil start wiggle and jiggle and hope for the best. Another problem is de heater core, totally rotten away. Perhaps that a heater core from a X300 will fit? I have bought one from Germany, it will arrive next week. Anyway, it's a lot of bring the ol' lady back to her grandeur. Thanks all!
