Camber and Caster adjustment procedure XJ6 SIII
So after replacing the original steering rack mounting bushings (some use shims) with Poly ones (all of which fit snugly - no shime reqd) my toe in was quite a bit off. I took it in for an alignment. The shop only corrected the toe-in, as shims are used to correct that. The shop did an initial scan for Toe-in , Caster and Camber. Toe was Left (L) -0.79 and Right (R) was -2.03. After adjustment it was L - 0.08 and R - 0.09.
The Camber was (L) 0.00 and (R) was -0.10.
The Caster was (L) - 2.70 and (R) was 3.80.
Neither was adjusted as I did not have a selection of shims.
So now I need to figure out what thickness of shims to obtain, install them and head back to the shop for an "after" check.
Moss Motors catalog lists Camber shims at 0.030", 0.128" and 0.250", and Castor shims at 0.048" and 0.064".
I can find no information as to what each thickness will adjust by (in Degrees), and my Maintenance manual is missing any details for Camber or Caster adjustment procedures.
Where can I find this adjustment information and can anyone guide me as to what shims I will need?
Best regards, Ian

same for caster & camber > 1/16 in. (1.6 mm.) in shims will alter the angle by approximately a 1/4 deg. i made my own from an aluminium sheet for the cambers, shouldn't need to get front caster shims, just swap front<> back till you get the correct specs.....are they using setting tubes for the wishbones?

I think you meant to say ".....not used to correct that."

Normally the caster is adjusted by using the existing shims and simply swapping which side of the ball joint they're placed. There are typically 6 shims per ball joint. You might want to order a couple of thin ones just in case your alignment guy needs them but he probably won't.
The Jaguar camber shims are really just an oddly shaped washer. The alignment guys I've used have simply used some shims they have on hand....the more commonplace type that look like a "U".

I don't recall seeing that info in any of the manuals. Oddly, it's given for the rear camber shims.
I'll try to do a little digging

Have a read of my Sticky at the top of the XJS section "Front wheel alignment".. Simple thing.
Doug is RIGHT, the Caster is simply moving the installed shims fore and aft of the balljoint to get what is required. The number of shims remains the same.
The Camber is the one to watch, and too many aligners stuff that one up royally, and you pay withing 6 months.

On the Jaguar front suspension the top wishbone inner pivot,MUST be parallel to the bottom wishbone inner pivot. So to adjust the camber, BOTH sides of the top wishbone pivot have to be equally adjusted by the same thickness of shims under the front and rear pivot fixing bolts.
