Default Chrome pressed wheels. ..

G'day, looking at buying a set of the old chrome pressed wheels for my '83 Daimler. Are they solid chrome or just plated ? They've got a few rust marks on them. Will these polish out or should I not bother with them ?
Thanks.

Our S2 XJ12 had them as standard.

Best of my knowledge, they were original steel wheels chrome plated prior to delivery.

Ours had what was known as the "chrome pack", which included the wheels, body side strip, Daimler style bonnet strip WITH leaper, door tread plates, made up the package.

As for polishing marks/rust out, who knows????. Take them to a chrome plate shop and get his opinion. A rechrome would not be that expensive in the big scheme of things.

Try tin/bacofoil and cola first. It really works and no/ little risk of scratching the chrome. There's a load of videos on youtube etc.

You'll be surprised how well it works. It won't remove deep pits but may well make them good enough to use.

If chrome work is excessively dirty I find that oven cleaner works to remove the muck.

It's especially good for the grill. Disassemble and put in one of the oven cleaning kits with the bag etc until its clean and then use the bacofoil and coke AFTER cleaning the oven cleaner off.

Word of warning DON'T use any form of sandpaper even the finest grades easily wear through the chrome!!!

i have a set of 5 XJ12 wheels chrome steel.

you can have them for $50.00 US money, thats $10 dollars each.

but packing and shipping would be your at your cost!

condition is good. slight chrome bleamish, on one wheel, the trunk spare.

I suppose that just falls on the right side of the 'no advertising' in the tech sections rule.

Wheels look good but I would imagine that freight from the U.S to N.Z would be prohibitively expensive.
