Default Copper coil

One of those 'oh damn' moments..
found a copper coil under the car yesterday and had a bad feeling the tooth fairy didn't leave it there.
I bet it's really important, the tip looks broken and it might have been misshaped at some point by force.
Anyone now exactly what it is and how much damage its absence has caused?

Looks alien to me. Road debris picked up in some fashion???

Might be a good beginning for a still???

That is the temp sensing part of the Air Conditioning expansion valve. It goes to the top of the valve as part of the balance pipe diaphragm and clamps to the EVAP outlet pipe.

Looks kind of hefty for that, Bob.

But, with nothing in the picture for scale, you could well be right.

scale indicator, sorry forgot, caught up in being photographically arty.

here's the same object with a standard AA battery and a piece of ruler.
